AKRON SPORTS CAR CLUB – RALLYE RULES (Short Form)
1. Driver must be 18 years of age or older
and possess a valid driver's license and insurance.
2. No more than two persons per car are
allowed, unless you have declared you are not running for trophies.
3. No drugs or alcoholic beverages are
allowed during the rallye.
4. Any moving violations incurred while on
the rallye will immediately
disqualify the participant(s).
This rallye has been set-up in accordance
with local traffic regulations.
5. The rallye is run from direction to
direction with the questions in-between.

Answers
will be visible almost anywhere from the route, with the following
exceptions: a) never directly behind the car,
b)
never on temporary signs. (e.g.
political, real estate) The only correct answer is the first
answer you come to.
7. Spelling of Answers; Answers to questions may have alternate
spelling that may sound or look the same, i.e.: Smith/Smythe. The answer
must be spelled as found on
the route. It must also be complete, including any other
wording on the sign with the answer.
8. Pavement Rule: Unless otherwise specified, in order:
A. Follow the route number or name of the
street. If you are put on a road by
name, stay on road until next direction.
B. Follow the main
curve of the pavement designated by either black-on-yellow curve signs or
center lines on the road.
9. Mileage:
Estimated mileage of the route, not the number that you drove, is used
as a tie breaker.
10. Scoring Method: Incorrect
in car questions = 10 Penalty Points.
Incorrect out of car questions = 20 Penalty Points.
Every min. in after the Optimal Time =
1 Penalty Point.
Every min. in before the Optimal Time =
5 Penalty Points.
11. The Optimal Time
will be announced at the finish line.
Any car exceeding the Maximum
Time will receive a DNF
(Did Not Finish).
Optimal Time = The time it takes to drive the route, at the speed limit, stopping at half of the total traffic lights.
Maximum Time = The absolute maximum time allotted to run the rallye. Announced at the drivers meeting.
L =
Left, a turn to the left of, from 1 to 179o.
R =
Right, a turn to the right of, from 1 to 179o.
T = An intersection having the general shape of the letter "T" as approached from the base.
Y = An intersection having the general shape of the letter "Y" as approached from the base.
Δ = An intersection of three roads in the shape of a triangle, execute only one instruction at the Δ.
Opportunity (Abbreviated OP or OPP) = Any public thoroughfare
onto which you may legally
turn in the direction indicated.
Only public roads are rallye roads.
Private roads and roads such as mall entrances, plant entrances,
business entrances, cemeteries, parks, schools and parking lots (unless clearly
marked by an official public street sign) are not public roads and are not to
be considered as rallye roads. Turn
onto them only if specifically told to do so by name (For example, you would
not consider mall driveways as opportunities in ’left at 2nd opp.’ but ‘left
into Summit Mall parking lot at second driveway’ is a legal instruction.)
Light = Red & Green with or without a yellow light, working or not.
Flashing Light = Permanent Red or Yellow Blinking Lights.
Stop = An octagonal Stop sign.
Landmark = An object along the course.
Pick-Up = To go essentially straight onto a road that undergoes a name change.
Dead End’s = When arriving at a dead end, U-turn and continue on as if no dead end had been encountered..
Miles (Abbreviated M or MI) = Number of miles to drive before executing instruction (i.e. L at 2 Miles)
* Indicates a question that has an answer that can be found on a mailbox.
** Indicates an out of the car question. They are worth 20 Points.
